Write freely and also earn academic credit from Western Oregon University

All professional teachers can earn academic credit by taking any class at the Attic.

Whether you take any of our great workshops and/or take our Join the "Write Now!" workshop for educators, you can earn graduate academic credit from Western Oregon University (and/or PDUs). "Write Now!" is the special Attic for Teachers course that gives you--as a professional teacher--the time, space, and freedom to nurture your creativity and your aspirations as a writer. But you can get credit by taking any of our classes.

Can I earn graduate credit through "Write Now!" workshop?
Yes. Just by focusing on your own creative inspiration & taking a writing class, you can earn graduate credit, continuing education units, or professional development units. In partnership with Western Oregon University, classes at the Attic can be used for professional teachers to earn 1 graduate credit for 20 hours of class time. In addition to the fee for taking the writing workshop, students simply pay a credit overlay fee to WOU ($50). Many school districts will subsidize or supplement teachers' continuing education studies. Teachers earn graduate credit through the Attic/WOU by taking any Attic class or by taking a specific Attic for Teachers workshop. All Attic classes and workshops can be repeated at any time for additional credit.

What do "Write Now!" workshops focus on?
"Write Now!" creates the opportunity for you to nurture your creativity through writing, whether it's fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, or whatever your interest is. Our aim is to validate your experiences & inspire your imagination, expand your intimacy, knowledge, & passion for the creative life, improve your writing, & in turn let you extrapolate concrete ideas to improve the writing skills of your students.

Do "Write Now!" workshops focus on pedagogy for teaching writing?
Only indirectly. The primary goal for "Write Now!" is your writing. "Write Now!" workshops are opportunity for classroom teachers who write or want to write to focus on their own writing--and in the process share teaching ideas, lessons, and practical suggestions that come out of the discussion about your writing. Participation in the "Write Now!" workshop is all about you. Extrapolation from the "Write Now!" workshop will also benefit your students.
